Can citizen science projects achieve both educational as well as scientific goals? The case of bird counting

In this first episode, I kick off with the origins of citizen science: bird counting. By talking to Jelle Abma, citizen science coordinator at Sovon, we learn how they ensure that the counting program is successful and that it achieves both educational as scientific goals. I also take you with me in my experiences while I join the yearly bird counting of Dutch gardens as one of the many citizen scientists.
