Why we monitor microplastics in water, and the potential of WaterWalks as a recording app

Past August I joined the second version of the Vliet Clean SUP, you know, a cleanup on a sup, stand up paddling. A good moment for me to use and try out some new methods for citizen science monitoring and recording. During this year’s Clean SUP I joined one day and took again a microplastic sample using our freshly developed micro-trawl method. I also tried the newly released WaterWalks application, curious to see what options it offers now for recording my experiences and finding om microplastics during and after the Vliet Clean Sup. To find out why we should start mapping microplastics in our fresh waterbodies, I dive a bit deeper into the topic together with Maarten Erich from The Ocean Movement.
