Opening the road to restore the Danube Basin Ecosystem with citizen science

Season #1

In this episode I will take you along the Danube River, where we have started the project Danube4All: https://www.danube4allproject.eu/. Within a duration of total 5 years, we will be responsible to create inclusive action with empowered local communities in the Danube River Basin, through public mobilisation and engagement in the restoration of the ecosystem of the river. Among others, we of course aim to do this using citizen science methods. But how to do this, how to design it? In the episode we aim at better understanding what motivations and opportunities where there for implementing citizen science in the Danube basin. What goal, what added benefit, and what reasoning should drive people to join in and start collecting data or thinking along the many challenges lying there for the Danube and its diverse inhabitants? We explore this with two inspiring people living and working along the Danube, to see what their interests could be concerning citizen science in their own area and within their organisation. We try to learn from them how citizen science can be beneficial to gain a sustainable ecosystem restoration.
